The Management Committee of the Darwin City Brass Band is pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Risos as the bands new musical director.
Jacks musical journey commenced early while attending Melbourne High School. He went on to Melbourne University where he received a Bachelor of Education in Music. Afterwards he worked at the Department of Education, mainly at Blackburn High School and Balwyn High School. Both high schools with renowned music programs.
As well as teaching brass, Jack led groups at all levels, from beginner to senior.
Jack went on to study at Indiana University at Masters level. There he studied trumpet with Professor Charles Gorham (ex. Principal: Cleveland Orchestra and founder of the International Trumpet Guild) and conducting with Professor Ray Cramer. Upon returning to Melbourne he did further study with Gordon Webb (ex. Principal: London Philharmonic and Sydney Symphony) focusing on solo trumpet repertoire.
Jacks musical achievements are wide raging, many and varied and includes conducting seminars for Victorian music teachers to help them conduct their ensembles at school and has conducted musicals, particularly for the Catchment Players, where he was musical director (for both the cast and orchestra) for shows including Chicago and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Mr Risos's formal appointment as Musical Director was announced to the band by President Bill Buckley at rehearsal on Tuesday 19th September.
